Smart Grid

Increasing use of technology in the electricity supply network that uses digital communication technology to detect and react to local changes in usage is a basic principle of the smart power grid. This requires digital innovation at all levels of the smart grid. For example, smart meters used to monitor record and transmit energy usage or any network component with a communication interface. IEC 61850 discusses usage of Generic Object Oriented Substation Events (GOOSE) to increase smart grid network security.
